Exceptional Education at the Heart of the Community

Exceptional Education at the Heart of the Community

PSHE and SRE

Today’s children and young people find themselves growing up in an increasingly complex world. Our General Studies curriculum seeks to equip our students with the knowledge and skills to flourish personally, socially, morally and spiritually in modern Britain.

Our SOL covers a range of issues in the global world including understanding the beliefs of different faith groups, managing relationships online and offline, understanding how to make ethical financial decisions, and challenging extremism and stereotypes.

Through our curriculum we create lifelong learners who have a sense of curiosity about the world around them – how it works, it’s past and it’s diversity. Our goal is for students to leave well balanced, tolerant, citizens of the future with a secure sense of responsibility, the wisdom to challenge injustice, equipped with the tools to live safe, healthy, happy and fulfilled lives.

Right to Withdraw from Sex Education

Parents have the right to request that their child be withdrawn from:

  • Some or all of sex education delivered as part of statutory Relationship and Sex Education (RSE).
  • Religious Education on the grounds that they wish to provide their own religious education. (School Standards and Framework Act 1998 S71 (3)).

The Assistant Principal will always seek to discuss this decision with parents, with a view to sharing the educational objectives of this curriculum and any potential detrimental effects that withdrawal might have on the child. In this way, parents can make an informed decision.

Where parents have requested that their child is withdrawn, their right must be respected, and where RSE and/or Religious Education is integrated in the curriculum, the school will discuss the arrangements with the parents to explore how the child’s withdrawal can be best accommodated.

Requests to withdraw your child from this aspect of the curriculum must be provided in writing and delivered to the academy.  Please use this document here to help with your request.

More information on the statutory content of RSE can be found here.
