Students enjoy a different type of learning with this project.
Our Bridge students decided they wanted to take over the care and management of the planters at the front of the Sheerness reception. We weeded the planters so they were ready for new plants.
Staff walked a group of students to our local garden centre, Stones, where a helpful member of staff spoke to the students and advised them what plants would work best in their space, which plants would flower well and most importantly, how to care for them. The store were extremely generous and gave students an additional £25 to spend.
On their return to school, the students then spent time plotting and planning where each plant was going to be placed before planting them into the ground. We think their end results look fantastic.
The students have also got sunflowers which they have grown and have now planted in the back courtyard area and we are currently growing runner beans and other vegetables in the class room until they are established enough to be planted outside.
Well done to all students involved in this project, you have made our flower bed area a much brighter and more welcoming space.
