GCSE Results day 2021 - Student success stories

A number of students have achieved superb individual results.

The wait for GCSE results is over as students across the country returned to school one final time to collect their grades, and the current coronavirus pandemic hasn’t dampened spirits for final year students at our academy as they look forward to taking their next steps today after securing some great results.

Tamuka C has secured two 9’s in combined Science, a 9 in English Literature and an 8 in English Language, amongst other incredible results. Tamuka will be heading to Canterbury College in September to study her A-levels. Ben D is another student who has performed fantastically well, achieving grades 8 and 7 in combined Science and 7’s in English, and will be returning to the Sixth Form in September to study Dance, Drama and Psychology.

Speaking of her results, Tamuka said; “I am so happy with my results! I worked really hard, and it was everything I’d hoped for”.

Bradley, aged 16, is another student who has collected some fantastic results this morning, after what has been a challenging journey from year 7 right through to the end of year 11. Highlights of Bradley’s success include a 7 in Enterprise, 7 in Sport and 5 and 4 in English and Maths. Bradley tells us, “I have had a mixed experience at school and at times it’s been really difficult. I’m so grateful for all the support I’ve had from my teachers, and I’m really pleased with my results today.” Bradley will be joining the Sixth Form and the future looks bright for him.

Other fantastic results include those of Maja and Esthy, both 16 and from Sittingbourne, who achieved 2 9’s, 2 8’s, 2 Distinctions and other fantastic grades between them. The students, who both speak English as their second language, joined Oasis in year 10 and year 11 respectively, meaning their English Literature exams in year 11 rather than in year 10 like the main body of students. Their success reflects the hard work they have put in since joining us, and English teacher Mrs Jones says of their achievements, “The girls have done fantastically well and with minimal teaching time. We are so pleased for them and wish them the very best in their future studies.”

Miss Lee, Principal, commented on students’ success saying; “We are thrilled for our young people who have worked so hard for these results in very challenging and difficult circumstances.  At Oasis Academy Isle of Sheppey, we are passionate about giving our students the opportunities that they need to make great progress and have choices at the end of their time with us, and this year more of our students than ever are finishing Year 11 with the qualifications they need to take the next step towards a fulfilling career.”

“Today is also an important testimony and a credit too to our fantastic teachers who are so dedicated to our students. This year that has presented incredible challenge and a very strenuous assessment procedure. We are very grateful that their commitment has enabled our students to do their very best.”

Mrs Hartnell, Year 11 Outcome Leader at the academy, added; “We are thrilled for all of our students on their results today – they have worked hard and reaped the rewards. We wish them all the best on their next steps, wherever that may be. Their achievements are an inspiration to the younger students of what can be achieved. We are also pleased that there continues to be growth in our Sixth Form and welcome any more prospective students at Induction Day tomorrow on the Sheerness Campus.”
