Provision location update

Provision location update

Please see updates to our provision locations for September 2019

This September, all of our secondary students will be taught at our East Campus, Minster Road, Minster-on-Sea, ME12 3JQ.  We will be moving our sixth-form provision to our West Campus, Marine Parade, Sheerness.

This is not a decision we have taken lightly, and we have carefully considered all of our options so that we can provide the best possible teaching and learning environment for our students.

By uniting our secondary campuses into one, we have a fantastic opportunity to make the most of our resources and staff.  Our teachers will be better able to support and challenge one another to develop their professional practice, and our students can benefit from access to all of our staff.

In addition to the above, uniting the secondary provision also means no more busing between campuses, enabling our students to focus on their studies and not have to travel during school time.  This is both more convenient and safer for these students.

By moving our sixth form to the West Campus, we will offer a more bespoke learning environment for our older students, setting expectations as they “move up” and prepare for university, further training or entering the workplace once they have completed their studies.

We are also exploring major revisions to our provision for our students with special educational needs, potentially at the West site.  These discussions are at an early stage, and we are meeting with all relevant stakeholders.

We are working to implement these changes smoothly.  Our tutors have met with those students moving campus to ensure they know their way to school, and around the academy.  Additional visits have been scheduled for children with SEND needs to ensure that they are familiar and comfortable with the transfer.  A number of parents attended our drop-in sessions to discuss concerns they have had with senior members of staff.  The majority are now happy with the transfer and understand why this move is necessary.

We are excited about the opportunity that we have to make better use of our resources, and we consider this the next important step in creating the sustainably ‘Good’ school that the young people of the Isle of Sheppey deserve.
