Year 8 and 9 visit St Omer!

The experience was the first time out of the UK for some of our young people, and while in France, they completed a town trail of the old town of Boulogne and visited La Coupole.

We are sure many of you have been waiting to hear about how our year 8 and 9 trip to France went last week, and we are so pleased to share a few images from what was a brilliant experience for our students and staff.

The experience was the first time out of the UK for some of our young people, and while in France, they completed a town trail of the old town of Boulogne and visited La Coupole, where they were met by history in the long galleries of what was nicknamed 'Hitler's bunker' and a museum and film footage about the Holocaust.

Our students immersed themselves in French culture, roaming around the market in Le Touquet speaking French and using euros and discovered the importance of the Marshes of 'St Omer' since the Middle Ages thanks to a beautiful boat ride. The workshop where boats are built thanks to oral transmission from father to children fascinated them.

More memories were created at the chateau with a French pancake evening and another around a campfire grilling marshmallows. On the last day, they discovered the cathedral of St Omer and were able to go shopping in the high street where contemporary and medieval history meet.

This was a wonderful and proud experience to watch our young people embrace, and to know that this will stay forever in their memories from school is a great bonus. Thank you to our students for making us proud and representing the academy so well.
