Oasis Academy Isle of Sheppey Sixth Form (OAIOS) has a highly successful, forward thinking student community, with high expectations. Ofsted judged our Sixth Form ‘Good’ noting that “leaders have ensured that the 16 to 19 study programmes offer a wide range of courses at different levels for students”. They said “teachers in the sixth form know their students well and have good subject knowledge. They plan well-structured activities that both challenge pupils and ensure that they understand complex ideas and concepts.” (Ofsted, July 2019)
Choosing your Sixth Form is an important decision and students need to find the place that best suits your interests, skills and talents and prepare you for your next step, whatever that might be. Our main goal is to prepare students to be happy and successful adults in whatever you choose to do and ensure that you are ‘life ready’ by the time you leave. OAIOS Sixth Form has 200 places and offers a mix of traditional A Levels and BTECs alongside a number of specialist pathways, such as Health & Social Care.
Alongside academic qualifications, through our tutorial & enrichment programme, we will help students to develop life skills such as team-working, excellent communication skills and determination; all of which are vital skills for students to be successful in life and work. We have an excellent working relationship with the University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University which enable students to benefit from university library facilities and online mentors. We also offer a bespoke Careers Advice and Guidance programme to ensure all student pathways are well supported in terms of ultimate destinations. This may include arranging specialist work experience or shadowing experience for vocational based undergraduate degrees such as Nursing and Primary Teaching.
We make a conscious effort through our Student Voice facility, to give pupils an opportunity to inform us of their desires for the Sixth Form and aim to facilitate a learning experience that is both supportive and enjoyable; encouraging the ‘compassionate’ and ‘considerate’ Oasis habits. The Social Committee and Student Societies are a driving force behind the social dynamic to our Sixth Form, to meet the ‘Joyful’ habit that underlies Oasis. As a smaller Sixth Form, pupils can value the inter-personal rapport they build with staff and each other alike.
As a Sixth Form team, we believe it is our responsibility to provide students with an opportunity to develop as well-rounded adults, who leave us with not only academic success, but with assets to excel in life beyond school. This holistic approach of streamlining the 9 habits from lower school into the Sixth Form ethos, formulates the framework to success at Key Stage 5.
